Often times when you watch a round table discussion on any one of the news channels you will hear the same thing. Rhetoric, "bumper sticker" slogans, and well thought out quips that sound good in a 10 second audio bite. The most recent discussion I saw on gun control was on CNN's Parker/Spitzer and starred
Kevin Williamson, Deputy Managing Editor National Review and Mayor Jeffery Jones of Paterson, New Jersey along with the show's two hosts. For the most part the show was full of rhetoric, "bumper sticker" slogans, and well thought out quips that sound good in a 10 second audio bite; especially the ones that Mayor Jones was dishing out. What I think was really over looked and pretty much written off was what Kevin Williamson said right away in the beginning. "Hunting rifles are more dangerous guns"..."assault weapons just look scary." He spoke nothing but truth, and was written off by the others because they were too busy trying to spit out their sound bites.
I don't know what Mr. Williamson's political leanings are, but he sure does have common sense which everyone else in the room seemed to lack. "We don't need stricter gun control laws. We need stricter felon control laws."
Come on Kevin, "What's your point? Alright, let's take that off the table..." so we can get some more "bumper sticker" slogans in here.
