RAZAR Adaptive Zoom Rifle Scope : Game Changer

RAZAR or Rapid Adaptive Zoom for Assault Rifles (no bonus points for the name) is a development coming out of the Sandia National Laboratories. It is a magnifying device that takes advantage of a flexible lens that is manipulated to change the focal point; unlike current optics that move two lens in a linear fashion. The new technology attempts to focus lenses like the human eye does. This development allows for rapid and clear magnification changes without ever having to touch the optic. The system uses a tape-switch device to control the zoom. The RAZAR is powered by two AA batteries and allows for over 10,000 lens manipulations.

The video shows the use of the RAZOR while mounted forward of a Leupold HAMR and features it in images being used with a Trijicon ACOG as well. The video below shows some of the development and testing with some military types:

The applications for the technology is pretty vast. Spotting scopes, binoculars and cameras to name a few.
